In this groundbreaking look at rape, the way we view rape in our culture is finally dismantled and replaced with a genuine understanding and respect for female sexual pleasure. Feminist, political, and activist writers alike present their ideas for a paradigm shift from the “No Means No” model, an approach that while necessary for where we were in 1974, needs an overhaul today.

Yes Means Yes brings to the table a dazzling variety of perspectives and experiences focused on the theory that educating all people to value female sexuality and pleasure leads to viewing women differently, and ending rape. Yes Means Yes aims to have radical and far-reaching effects: from teaching men to treat women as collaborators and not conquests, encouraging men and women that women can enjoy sex instead of being shamed for it, and ultimately, that our children can inherit a world where rape is rare and swiftly punished. With commentary on public sex education, pornography, mass media, Yes Means Yes is a powerful and revolutionary anthology. ISBN 9781580052573.

Jaclyn Friedman Yes Means YesJaclyn Friedman is a writer, performer, and activist, and the editor of the hit book Yes Means Yes: Visions of Female Sexual Power and a World Without Rape, #11 on Ms. Magazine’s Top 100 Feminist Nonfiction of All Time list.

As an undergraduate, Jaclyn thought she was too smart to become a victim of sexual assault – until another student proved her wrong. That experience eventually led her to become a student and instructor of IMPACT safety training. Jaclyn’s article “Drinking and Rape: Let’s Wise Up About It,” has become a popular reference for new thinking about preventing rape without shaming or blaming women. The article – and the public response to it – was the inspiration for Yes Means Yes.

Jaclyn is a popular speaker on campuses, conferences, radio and television shows across the U.S. and beyond. Jaclyn is a founder and the Executive Director of Women, Action & the Media, a national organization working for gender justice in media.
