"I belong out in the world, spreading love and happiness. That’s why my books are happy… and it’s why I’m happy. Now, I am going to work at bringing that happiness and peace to others...It’s a leap, but then, I like to live on the edge. I’d rather fail at something a million times than to not have tried it because I was afraid." Author, Beth Burnett
The Love Sucks Club by Beth Burnett
Here's an excerpt:
Standing outside of the front door of the hotel, I watch her drive away. She glances back once and I slowly raise my hand. My ears are still buzzing, so I sit down in the lobby and ask the front desk clerk to page Sam.
The tunnel comes down over my sight and I can see Esmé and Fran, young and troubled, clinging to each other, both of them with tears in their eyes. I don’t know whether it’s a vision or my imagination, but I’m drawn to Fran’s young face, her light brown eyes and her pale skin. The shock of red hair, curly and full, was just as beautiful in this vision as it was years later when she came into my life. The vision darkens and for a second, all I can see is Esmé. I’m standing on the edge of a cliff, looking back at her. Her face is deathly white and there is a trickle of blood coming out of her mouth.
As I slowly become aware that Sam is holding my shoulders and shaking me gently, the tunnel lifts from my sight. Sam’s face, full of love and concern is inches from mine.
Beth Burnett is an award winning novelist. On her 40th birthday, she decided to get serious about her writing. She honed her skills writing short stories on bar napkins for tourists in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Beth is a banjo playing, universe loving, soul searching, joy promoting award winning novelist. She is the kind of person who believes that if something is calling to her soul, she should make every effort to do it.
Beth is focusing on marketing her books, writing more, teaching classes on writing, and giving workshops that help women to learn to love themselves, and come to the same self-love that she now possess. She says, "Long ago, I had a dream in which a friend’s deceased mother appeared to me and told me to paint love on my forehead. I’ve spent the time since then doing just that. I put love out to the universe and the universe has given me love in return. I am not cheap with my love. I spread it around and try to bring joy and happiness to everyone who comes into my world."
Beth writes romantic comedies while eating dinner in front of her laptop, in the dead dark of night with music playing in the background. She lives in idyllic Ohio with her soulmate dog, Brutus, with thoughts of driving cross country to California for a little surf, piercings, and more lesbian poetry readings!
