Preventing Cancer - The Health Dangers of Fracking

Fracking and the drilling associated with fracking pose a direct and immediate threat to the drinking water, air, climate, food, health and economies of communities across the United States. We need to understand fracking, how it impacts our health and our communities, and ban fracking now.

A new and risky oil boom is hitting many counties in America. The only way to go after these unconventional, heavy oil reserves is through high-intensity techniques like fracking - acidizing and steam injection that pose a greater risk and harm to water, health, and climate than conventional drilling. The harms are well documented.

This compelling video by the "Vote YES on Santa Barbara's Measure P" campaign to Ban Fracking is one of the best educational videos we've seen yet on Fracking's Health Dangers. It is directed by a documentary journalist who has reported from the front lines of wars and takes an unflinching view of what's at stake in Santa Barbara County, California.

November 4, 2014, Election Update:
The Ban on Fracking won in two California Counties: San Benito (by 67%) and Mendocino Counties. Measure P, the Ban on Fracking in Santa Barbara County, lost 63 percent to 37 percent. Chevron and Aera Energy, funneled $7.6 million into Measure P.  Supporters of Measure P were outspent 20-1. Rebecca Claassen, a co-founder of the Santa Barbara County Water Guardians, said, “This campaign was the beginning of the fight, not the end.”

Coalitions and organizations dedicated to banning drilling and fracking for oil and natural gas are on the move to protect our shared vital resources for future generations. Federal, state and local efforts to ban fracking and enact moratoriums that stop practices that facilitate fracking like natural gas exports, and the construction of pipelines are under way.
