M Train by Patti Smith, Winner of The National Book Award. A book Patti Smith has described as “a road map to my life.”

M Train begins in the tiny Greenwich Village café Patti Smith goes to every morning for black coffee. Where she ruminates on the world as it is and the world as it was, where she writes prose that shift between dreams and reality, between past and present, and across a landscape of creative aspirations and inspirations.

People have the power by patti smithPatti shares her travels to Frida Kahlo’s Casa Azul in Mexico, to a meeting of an Arctic explorer’s society in Berlin, to a ramshackle seaside bungalow in New York’s Far Rockaway that she buys just weeks before Hurricane Sandy hits, and to the graves of Plath, Genet, Rimbaud, and Mishima.

Woven throughout this biography are reflections on her craft and on artistic creation, and memories of her life in Michigan and the loss of her husband. Patti Smith weaves despair, hope, and consolation with her Polaroid photographs. M Train is a meditation on coffee, on travel, detective shows, and literature. It is a powerful, deeply moving book by one of the most remarkable multiplatform artists working today. Hardcover ISBN 9781101875100.
