Vibrant Guatemala Corazon Scarves combine traditional Mayan back-strap weaving techniques with innovative styles and rich colors. These elegant botique quality scarves preserve the back-strap weaving tradition in a fashionable way. Generous in length and width, 70 x 10 inches, the Vibrant Guatemala Scarf comes in five different color blends, and is made of a soft rayon fabric that is smooth to the touch and drapes elegantly.  These scarves are reversible.

The women of Corazon de Mujer set the prices for their goods and receive a fair wage.

Approximately 20 members weave traditional textiles on the back strap and foot looms, generating income to support their families.  Some of their members are widows and weaving is their only source of income, as they have never had the opportunity to study and are illiterate. As an organized group of women, they are able to solicit training and are learning new skills.

Our products are made by hand: pattern and color variations are to be expected.

deborah_du_pey_corozon_botique Deborah duPey worked throughout Central America training women to be domestic violence advocates. While doing this work, she met Corazon de Mujer (Heart of Woman), survivors of Guatemala's 36-year civil war. These women had fled their highlands and created a cooperative to support each other emotionally and work together to sell their beautiful weavings. Deborah created Corazon Boutique to vallue the work of women in developing countries, recognizing that when women have access to education and financial stabiity, they can greatly improve the well-being of their communities.

Corazon de Mujer (Heart of Woman), a women's cooperative, are the principle weavers for Corazon Scarves. The group’s members are indigenous women who suffered from the 36-year long armed conflict in Guatemala. They joined to form a weaving group in Chimaltenango, Guatemala in 1991.
