Womyn’s Gathering in France
August 9-16, 2017
I met one of the organizers this winter and she shared her passion for this yearly festival in France, just an hour’s train ride from Paris. She was visiting the U.S. and friends introduced us by email. We had a wonderful day together talking U.S. and French politics for hours. She was excited to get her toes in the sand and waves of the Pacific Ocean while we walked the southern coast of California. I want to share the news of this Womyn’s Gathering with all of you.
The Womyn’s Gatherings in France began in 2014 and continues each year. These festivals are an international feminist gathering organized by a team of feminists coming from Australia, Algeria, France, Serbia, the USA and the UK open to all women of all ages and origins.
This Womyn’s Gathering in France was started in 2014 by a small group of womyn who wanted to create something that combined the best of feminist gatherings. They were inspired by everything they loved in women’s festivals, such as the ‘Michigan’s Women Music Festival’ in the United States, with lots of creative and leisure activities, time to eat and celebrate together, sharing magical community moments, and the feeling to be in a safe space, close to nature and far away from patriarcal urban pollution with the ability to sing and dance around the fire, and immerse ourselves in a festive and joyful atmosphere.
The organizers are also inspired by the flourishing of intellectual and activist work that feminist gatherings bring about, the possibility to discuss at length and in small groups with other feminists, to deepen our understanding of important topics, to make our contribution to the movement while learning new practices and theories.
Womyn’s Gathering – France 2017 – All the workshops and talks will be interpreted into English and French. See the Video:
Statement of Purpose:
– Because we believe in womyn-only spaces; we are convinced of their necessity and ready to fight for them.
– Because we believe in solidarity; and we want to work towards a feminism that is womyn-centred, anti-racist, anti-colonialist and that takes into consideration womyn’s contexts and womyn’s backgrounds.
– Because we believe in sisterhood; we want to exchange lovingly, build bridges and theorize together starting from our own experiences to better understand how patriarchy works and how it can be smashed.
– And because last year was a huge success; because it made us stronger as individuals and as a community.
This gathering is a space designed for the re-discovery of the joy and freedom to be found in women-only space, to re-energise ourselves, to get to know each other and to reinforce our feminist networks in Europe and North Africa. The gathering is open to all women of all ages and origins.
“Our experience is that women-only spaces facilitate the development of collective awareness, the building of hope, energy and joy and lead to action for protecting and organising ourselves. They allow us to create our own spaces, resistance and survival practices, theories and cultures centred on our own realities and needs, where we are the subjects and we have value as women.”

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see you there! This womyn’s gathering meets at the same time we would be at the Michigan Women’s Music Festival if it was still taking place. Let’s put this on our calendars and dream of arriving in Paris to board the train together to Sarthe:) Bee Well!
